    What a massive headache. Had two drives as Raid 0 in a 2 bay Asustor NAS. Purchased a 4 bay Asustor NAS., inserted same drives and only option appears to be to delete all data from them when the purpose was to add 2 additional new larger drives for data to copy onto. Can't seem to set up NAS without deleting all data. Installed drives in correct order to original 2 bay nas and now it wants to initialize & delete data from them.

      RAID 0 does not support adding or changing drives in any capacity. This is the limitation of RAID 0.

      @@ASUSTOR_YT can't add old drives to new NAS as secondary drives (3 & 4) as they need all data deleted during initialization, so there is no way to now recovery any data off these raid 0 drives.

      @@BrucieNZ You need to boot your NAS with the first two drives installed. You can't just simply move them to a different NAS installation Take out the other drives and install the old ones to access the data.

    It's great that Asustor did this, but exactly how long was the actual test for? I'd be somewhat sceptical if it was only 10 minutes or so. Or to put it another way, how long would be reasonable to see whether the drives were overheating?

    • @ASUSTOR_YT
      @ASUSTOR_YT Місяць тому

      The issue is, when it reaches temperature, everything stabilises. It doesn't matter if it's one hour or 10 hours, it will be the same. In preparations to understand what I was doing before filming the video, I had to understand how these would behave and did several experiments and watched them over the course of a day. If I turned the machine to 40°C ambient, they overheated and exceeded 70°C. There is a point though where if all drives are receiving equal amounts of use in an environment, they're going to plateau. I waited for the drives to plateau to then offer my conclusion.

    I AM AN ASUSTOR NAS OWNER: Compliance Mode seems to be best used for information that is not to be altered in any way, shape, or form forever. However, if one cannot do anything with a folder in Compliance Mode, and one cannot even reinitialize the NAS, how does one recover the space, other than having to reformat the entire NAS? PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS ISSUE (recovering space) MORE FULLY BECAUSE IT"S NOT ENOUGH TO GO THROUGH THE STEPS FOR BOTH MODES AND LEAVE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS UNANSWERED. ALSO: PLEASE ADVISE YOUR CREW THAT PUT TOGETHER THIS VIDEO THAT THE BACKGROUND MUSIC SERVES ABSOLUTLY NO PURPOSE OTHER THAN TO DISTRACT. IT WOUILD BE MORE INSTRUCTIONAL TO HAVE SOMEONE SPEAKING AND COMMENTING AS THE VIDEO PROGRESSES. PLEASE RECONSIDER THE USE OF PURPOSELESS MUSIC IN YOUR FUTURE VIDEOS. Thanks for the video.

    Is it normal for DataSync Centre to skip syncing certain files, or losing the ability to sync to a Cloud Storage entirely (while still reporting everything is synced a-ok)? I notice several files not getting synced from my OneDrive (unless I rename them manually, then it suddenly "finds" them). It even stopped syncing my wife's OneDrive entirely for some reason after about a month. For now, it's just too buggy to trust as a means of backing up cloud storage automatically, so I've reverted to using a computer (per user) that caches all of the OneDrive-files and then using local syncing software to sync it to my Backup share on the NAS. Basically, this means the same mode of operation as my very low-budget old NAS and only using the Asustor AS5402 as a "dumb file target". Needless to say, this is a lot more "labor intensive and prone to forgetting" than the NAS just doing it continuously without manual interaction. Too bad, because in every other regard this has been a huge upgrade to my old NAS...

      I wonder if ASUSTOR staff even bothers to monitor these 'how to' videos they create to provide learning instructions to consumers regard their products. I just discovered DataSync Center today on my Flashstor FS6706T. (relatively new to NAS and ASUSTOR products) I thought, gee, this would be great to have a synchronized backup of GD just for the sake of complying with 'possession is 9/10ths of the law rule with regard to data possession, control, and who holds/owns the data. Anyway, if I run into any caveats or negative experiences , I will post a follow up here. Perhaps you might want to provde feedback to ASUSTOR on their forum as well and not rely on support from ASUSTOR here on their YT channel. My 2-cents worth.
